My summer holidays were one of the most awaited event during school days( B4 High school ). The enthusiasm of going to my village, meeting all cousins, doing n number of things used to start as soon as the final exam dates arrived. Me and my younger sister beauty made a list of things we wanted to do after the exams were over. In between the exams when ever we take break we start talking about our plan of making our dolls clothes getting them married to friends doll, making small chulha ( earthen stove) and cooking food on it when mom and aunts go to sleep in summer afternoons etc.
After final exams few days we will stay at home then for a month or fifteen days we went to our village to spend holidays. Our preparation for going to village included small colorful stones collected from sand to showoff there and play with, all scrap collected secretly from the things which mom sold to kabadiwala, rags for making dolls dress, lots of coins from gullak to buy orange wali toffee & shole biscuit & nalli from gunnu ki dukaan (shop), separate clothes for going to our mango orchard as they used to get stained there etc.
In village we and all our cousins spent more time in the mango orchard, my Grandfather will fix time for us to go there and protect the mangoes from notorious people. For this work we all will get bonus mangoes and lot of time and place to play :). Around the mango orchard there were other interesting things, one blackberry tree, one Jangali Jalebi tree (I don't know its english name), Lots other local mango trees which was shared by many families, one big well, one hospital and our favorite gunnu ki dukan :).
The blackberries were yumm and the stain of blackberry were bad on clothes. Jangali Jalebi was center for fighting. The shared mangoes were of different kind only, it was fun to get and eat them, it was a rare occasion though. Hospital was for playing hide and seek. Well was for throwing stones and listening its sound. Trees had endless possibilities to play with though what we chose were, tree-to-tree, hop scotch, cricket, football, monkey-tree etc. We also played lots of card games UNO, WWF-cards, Chor+raja+sipahi+mantri..etc.
In evening when we went back home, we get loads of scoldings from mom, why you all play in sun?, in dirt? why eat this that and after that session all of us will take bath then eat together in a big plate. After dinner we all will flew to the terrace and story session will start, all different kind of stories from different places, planets....lot of them from which were not real. So many imaginative stories, some days ghost stories, snake stories all scary stories. After those scary stories all of us searched for one elder to sleep with. I had some other liking too like watching stars making pattern out of them. In village the sky looks so clear at night its a wonderful scenario, memory of it makes me happy even now.
One of my great secret which I never told anyone. We every morning had to go and collect mangoes which used to drop previous night, the person who will collect more was winner. I had a magic song which I sang while searching for mangoes and most of the times was the winner :)...i'l not tell which song it was :P its a secret. Sometimes when fast wind ( aandhi ) blew all of us has to go to the different locations to collect mangoes. It was great fun.
Endless stories I have of my summer holidays....will write the sequel soon......:)
